Unless you live under a rock, you must be well-aware of the iPhone drama which was all over the news. After many years of rumours about Apple slowing down older iPhones, the company admitted it actually does that to it’s older iPhones in order to protect the devices from their ageing batteries.

CEO of Apple, Tim Cook has apologized after the whole situation about Apple slowing down it’s older devices. ABC News held an interview on Wednesday wherein, Cook said that the slow down process was for a better user experience and it was set off to prevent the phone from an unexpected restart.

Tim Cook himself said that Apple will soon be releasing a software update which will allow its users to disable the slowdown feature. The update is scheduled to arrive later in February. Although, disabling this feature will maintain normal CPU usage but the phone itself would be at a risk of unexpected shutdown. This news is sure to make a lot of people happy and relieved and probably will gain back their trust towards the brand.

Alongside the feature to disable the slowdown, Apple will be introducing a more detailed monitoring system for the battery health. As of now, iOS warns the users if the battery is significantly decayed, but now on, it won’t notify them at all, be it partial damage by normal ageing or a severe case. Cook said, “We’re going to give people the visibility of the health of their battery so it’s very, very transparent. This hasn’t been done before.” He also added, “Our actions were all in service of the users.”

Apple tried fixing this by sending out an apology letter and they also dropped the price of replacement batteries for the out-of-warranty iPhones. This did raise some problems for Apple since there was a shortage of supplies and the iPhone 6 Plus replacement batteries will be limited until March 2018.

The update will be slowly rolled out to the users in the form of iOS 11.0.3 (probably). As Cook said, the update will come through the next iOS developer beta which will be available in February and a live public release will be released by the end of February or by March. Quite recently, Apple upped the iPhone prices in India after the import duty hike, which resulted in almost all iPhone models getting pricier.
