Pressure sensitive displays have never made to the mainstream Android market after being introduced by Apple. The reason is that no major Android phone manufacturer has adopted the tech. Samsung gave its customers a taste of pressure sensitivity by using it under home button of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The feature is now being said to expand its capabilities on the Galaxy Note 8.
The news comes from The Investor that cites ET News as the source of the information. According to the report, the Galaxy Note 8 will again feature a pressure sensitive home button like the Galaxy S8 series. But it will now be able to perform additional functions like opening hidden menus to access shortcuts, the report notes.
Samsung had to remove the iconic home button from the Galaxy S8 to make space for the edge to edge Infinity Display. Pressure sensitivity was added to the on-screen home button of the phone to compensate for the lost capabilities of its physical counterpart. The fingerprint scanner that used to sit below the physical home button, had also been to be moved to the back.
For those who have used any of the recent Apple iPhones know that the pressure sensitive display adds a new dimension to the user interface of the phone. The feature allows the users to perform different actions on their phone based on the amount of pressure applied. With this in place, the Galaxy Note 8 plans to do much more with its home button than just being there for navigation.
Samsung has scheduled an event in New York on August 23rd where we’ll be officially seeing the Galaxy Note 8. The phone has been suggested to sport a 6.3-inch Infinity Display, a form factor similar to the Galaxy S8, dual cameras on the back along with a heart rate monitor and a fingerprint scanner. Snapdragon 835 and 6GB of RAM will provide the phone with muscles it would need.
