Nokia has finally returned to the smartphone market since its slow demise in 2011 with its first ever Android powered smartphone: Nokia 6. In case you didn’t know, the Nokia 6 and all the upcoming Nokia Android phones are not actually manufactured by the Finnish company. They are built by another Finnish company named ” HMD Global,” following Nokia’s guidelines and retaining the brand name.

Nokia 6 is a pretty decent mid-range phone with premium design and average specifications for a retail price of $250. Even though HMD Global is manufacturing the new gen Nokia phones; it should be noted that they are still carrying the eponymous trademark. And now the question is: Did Nokia’s first Android smartphone meet our expectations? – To be honest, not even closer.

Nokia 6 isn’t what fans were expecting to see from the company that was making a big comeback. Though the device looks pretty enough, it does not sport any innovative feature or design. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 430 SoC, which is something we see on an entry-level 1080p phone. It’s also worth mentioning that the Nokia 6 has the weakest CPU among its competitors, which includes Oppo A57 with a Snapdragon 435 processor and Huawei G9+ with a Snapdragon 625 processor. And the worst of all, the smartphone is being launched as a China exclusive. That means people from other parts of the World will not be receiving any love from Nokia, at least for now.

Keeping aside the negatives, the Nokia 6 features a 5.5 inch full HD display, a 16MP rear camera, and an 8MP front-facing camera. The manufacturer’s addition of 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage is something to be appreciated, considering that it is a mid-range smartphone. It also packs dual speakers, one on the top and other on the bottom, smart dual amplifier chips (TFA9891) offering 6dB louder sound and Dolby Atmos. It runs Android Nougat out of the box and is backed by a 3000 mAh battery.

Surprisingly, the Nokia 6 has managed to cross a massive 250K pre-orders mark on its exclusive retail store JD.com, even without bringing anything innovative to the table. According to the latest rumors, Nokia and HMD Global are planning to launch their flagship Android smartphone at the Mobile World Congress next month. Allegedly called as Nokia 8, it is said to feature the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset, 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.
