Vivo has been the talk of the town ever since it managed to draw attention to its X20 Plus UD with in-display fingerprint scanner. The phone’s successor Vivo X21 has been made official by the company as a mass market product. It was surely a busy day for BBK Electronics since OPPO also launched its similar looking R15 series, besides the X21. Meanwhile, the Vivo X21 UD has been the showstopper with the inclusion of an in-display fingerprint scanner, becoming one of the first smartphones to do so.

The Vivo X21 was announced at an event in China, where it was accompanied by Vivo X21 UD, the variant that houses an in-display fingerprint scanner. Both of them get a 6.2-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display in a 19:9 aspect ratio with almost no bezels, although, they do sport a notch at the top. The notch has been the most controversial addition since its introduction in iPhone X and it being adopted by almost every Android smartphone manufacturer in the market. The Vivo X21 is powered by Snapdragon 660 clocked at 2.2GHz which is coupled along with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage while, the Vivo X21 UD will only be available with 128GB of flash memory.

Both the new X21 series devices will run Android 8.1 Oreo based on FunTouch OS 4.0, which consists of A.I features assisted by the Qualcomm’s intelligence chip provided with the Snapdragon 660. The devices are fully covered in a 3D glass body and feature a dual-camera setup at the rear with a 12-megapixel primary shooter along with a 5-megapixel secondary camera while also featuring the Samsung 2L9 sensor with Dual Pixel technology. The rear camera placement looks very similar to that on the Apple iPhone X. The front camera on the X21 packs a 12-megapixel sensor with tons of AI features and company’s own Rubik Cube technology.

Along with all these features, the Vivo X21 also has support for facial recognition and is accompanied by Jovi, an AI-driven virtual assistant. Vivo has also paid a lot of attention in the audio department since the devices will include a AK4376A Hi-Fi chip for a better audio experience. There is a decent 3,200mAh battery included in the device and its connectivity options include Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth, and GPS.
