Transferring media files from your phone to PC needs you to carry a USB cable or use the clumsy and slow Bluetooth. Apps like SHAREit have always been present but they are, too, inconsistent at times when working cross-platform. Microsoft Garage today released an experimental app called Photos Companion for both iOS and Android which lets you easily send files to your Windows 10 PC over WiFi.

Microsoft says that the Photos Companion app has been designed keeping students in mind who can use it to swiftly transfer images and videos to their project PCs. If you are one of those who has all their photos and videos backed up on the cloud, then you might not want to use this app. The app is available for Android and iOS and works with the Photos app on Windows 10 PC to transfer the files. You can select multiple photos and videos from your gallery and they will appear instantly on the PC.

For transferring the media content, you must open the Photos app on your Windows 10 PC and click on the Import button. From the drop-down menu, select From mobile over WiFi which will show a QR code on the screen. Now open the Photos Companion app on your Android or iOS device and scan the QR code. You need to make sure both the devices are on the same WiFi network to work. The devices will connect and you can now select all the photos and videos and click Done to send them to the PC.

It is worth noting that you will have to connect the two devices each time you wish to send some files from your phone to PC. However, the process is so quick and seamless that you wouldn’t mind doing it. The Photos Companion app can also be used to add photos and videos directly to a video project on the Windows 10 Photos app. The app is still at its initial stages and Microsoft might introduce more features to it in the near future.
