Google is reportedly working on a file manager called Files Go. This app can do much more than just managing your files, including cleaning up the junk and sharing files. Files Go is in its testing phase and is available in beta on the Google Play Store. It made an appearance at the Play Store and is available for download by anyone.

From the bunch of images that are available one app page, the Files Go app appears to sport a clean UI, as you’d expect from any other Google app. 9to5Google spotted the app the first and it reports about a unique feature that allows sharing the files wirelessly. This is done without the need for any internet connection as the app might be targeted at more emerging markets.

This feature is similar to Apple AirDrop but with a few major differences. With the Files Go app, both the receiver and sender need to have the app opened on their Android phones. This isn’t the case with AirDrop that can send files to any Apple device nearby without having the need to open any app or setting.

As we mentioned earlier, the Files Go app has a clean UI that is also quite simple to use. Your files would be available under different tabs, like Received, Images, Videos, and Audio. One of the screenshots of the app reveals further bifurcation in the Images section. Your images will be available under different categories based on the source they’re coming from, including chat apps, camera, screenshots, etc.

What confirms the fact that the app is targeted at emerging market is a screenshot that reveals an internal storage size of 8GB. Google might want to keep the budget smartphones with lower-end specifications snappy without choking the internal memory. The Files Go app shows the available storage as well as an option to clean the app cache that should further free up more space.

The Google Files Go (beta) app can be downloaded from here.
