The Samsung Galaxy S series is getting closer to its annual update cycle period with the coming year. To take all the heed away from the iPhone X, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S9 a bit early in January. The Galaxy S8, on the other hand, was announced in March this year. The phone is expected to stretch the display further towards the edges to attain a jaw-dropping screen to body ratio.
Benjamin Geskin has created a couple of concept images of the phone based on the information available. Though not possibly accurate, these concept images do give us an idea how the next Samsung flagship plans to take on the Apple offerings. At a glance, you’d identify the phone in the images as the Galaxy S8 as the design is mostly based on it.
Samsung might not go for a major design change like it did with the Galaxy S6. In line with the renders, you can expect the design to be more or less the same. These images show a trimmed top bezel, which is still present to house all the sensors and has not been replaced with a notch that many want to hide. The bottom bezel has been completely removed taking the display further down.
With the bottom bezel at its lowest, I think typing with the on-screen keyboard will be much harder. Samsung and all other Android manufacturers should come out with a software solution to maintain the height of the keyboard so that typing isn’t hampered with the ever-decreasing bottom bezels. Apple has already implemented a fix to this issue in their iPhone X that keeps the keyboard at the same height as the iPhone 8.
Apart from this, what has changed on the phone sits on its back. Now, there would be two cameras on the back, which was quite obvious after the Galaxy Note 8 sported them. Their position, however, would be a little different this time, at least as per these concept images. The camera housing will be placed vertically against the horizontal placement we saw on the Note 8. And most importantly, the fingerprint scanner will sit below them right in the center, not at any other awkward place.
These are just concept images that might not show the actual phone. But they have been made based on the leaks that normally turn out to be true. Even if Samsung decides to announce the Galaxy S9 in January, we still have a couple of months that should bring a sheer number of leaks and rumors. We shall update you with any piece of information that surfaces about the phone in the near future.
