What a practically outlandish wonder, exaggerated by the film and entertainment industry, is teleportation! One cannot envision it to be real, at least today,  let alone pushing the burden on the shoulders of the far away future. Be that as it may, 11th July 2017, that was yesterday, has been encircled red on the historic calendars, as the event of the very first teleportation to Earth’s orbit took place. Astonishing, isn’t it?

The diminutive and successful (kinda) experiments that have been performed, cost millions and have only investigated subatomic particles or tiny non-living objects, no tests have yet shed any light on teleportation of the living, which makes it barely advantageous for large-scale composition. But, a group of Chinese researchers, as reported by BBC News, has thrived to teleport a photon to a satellite circling 500 kilometers over the earth, from the Gobi desert. Basically, a photon teleported conveys information through quantum mechanics, which does not physically relocate the subject, but instead replicates it in the exact same form, at the destination. Although a photon is insignificant, it is still a huge discovery in this field. Let this audio from BBC News, dive in deeper and explain why is the discovery very helpful.

This new breakthrough was accomplished through a process known as quantum entanglement, it involves two particles to react as one, even though they aren’t physically connected in any manner. The same phenomenon is explained by Hooke Professor of Experimental Physics at Oxford University I. Walmsley, to BBC’s the World At One. If you wish to learn more, check it out here.
