Whatsapp, the popular messaging app which is used by over 1 billion people daily, is much appreciated by Android and iOS users. However, people who use devices running KaiOS seem to be filtered out. A recent report by WAbetaInfo, which is considered a credible source for all WhatsApp news, suggested that Whatsapp is developing a dedicated app for KaiOS which powers some newer feature phones including Reliance JioPhone and Nokia 8110 4G.

In December, WhatsApp stated that it’ll no longer support its app on Nokia S40 OS, Blackberry OS, Windows phone, and older Symbian-based devices, in exchange, WhatsApp will be made available on KaiOS, which is a Linux-based operating system allowing its use even on lower-end devices without the need of top-notch specifications. Major companies such as Reliance Jio and Nokia have adapted the OS for their feature phones and the recently launched Nokia 8110 4G also runs on KaiOS. Kai recently visited the MWC event held in Barcelona where it announced partnerships with brands like Facebook, HMD, Twitter, Google, Micromax, etc. to create software solutions for the feature phones.

In 2017, the JioPhone was announced and it built a lot of hype since it was the cheapest 4G phone available in the market. The device itself was powered by KaiOS. Recently, features such as Google Assistant and Facebook app have been introduced on to the device and it may not be long till we can see WhatsApp up on the list too. References to the KaiOS app have been found on the recent WhatsApp Beta for Windows phone which reveals a presence of a new platform which is connected to the WhatsApp servers. While there is no final word on the availability of the same but it is expected to come sooner than later. This sure is a news for JioPhone users to cheer about.
