Few hours before today’s official Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE launch, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, shared three sample photos showcasing the daylight and low-light performance of the cameras on the Mi 8, along with a bonus picture.

Talking about the rumored specs, the Mi 8 is said to have a 12- megapixel dual camera sensor. The cameras feature 1.4-micron pixels, OIS, dual-pixel autofocus and AI-powered portrait mode. The device also has a score of 105 in DxOMark’s rankings. The phone incorporates AI to identify scenes and apply the best settings, as well as features such as “Studio Lightning” portrait photography, obviously inspired by Apple.

Despite the compression in these pictures, as they are shared on Weibo, we can barely notice any noise in the low-light images and detail is well-preserved. The photos look sharp, the colors look punchy, the sky is blue, the daylight sky is captured quite accurately and the overall dynamic range appears to be perfect.

Besides the camera, the Mi 8 may feature a 6.21-inch AMOLED Full HD+ edge-to-edge display with a notch on top, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC under the hood, paired with 6GB of RAM, and up to 256GB onboard storage. There’s also a Mi 8 Explorer Edition that features similar specs to the Mi 8 but comes with several special features such as the 3D face unlock and a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint scanner. We will be having a lot more coverage for the Mi 8.
