Xiaomi has been ruling the mid-range market for quite a while now. With the Mi MIX 2S already announced, we’ve come across some leaks of the alleged Mi 7. Recently, Xiaomi uploaded the Mi MIX 2S teardown images on its official Weibo account and on the same post one of the Weibo users jokingly stated that the Mi 7 will pack a fingerprint sensor under the screen which was then confirmed with a reply from Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi. However, it seemed more like Lei was engaging with the user in a light talk over a very popular feature of today. Since the founder of the company took it to Weibo, it is expected for the feature to arrive with the Mi 7.

The bezel-less display was the trend of 2017 and almost half of 2018 but it seems like a new champion is about to be crowned which might be the in-display fingerprint sensor. A prototype of this feature was earlier showcased by Vivo at the CES which was held in February. A report close also confirmed that the under-display fingerprint sensor will most probably come to the Mi 7 with the MIUI source code branch also confirming the same. Xiaomi will be joining the bandwagon of smartphone companies trying to adopt the new fingerprint scanning tech, which includes Huawei and Vivo.

According to previous reports, the Mi 7 will sport a 5.65-inch OLED display. It’s not yet confirmed but a notch will probably make an appearance. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 8GB of RAM and 4,000mAh battery. The main reason to delay the launch of Mi 7 was perhaps the addition of the in-display fingerprint sensor, it is highly unlikely for the company to risk wasting time adapting the FaceID-like system. The phone focuses more on the camera department with a 16-megapixel dual-camera setup at the rear and a 13-megapixel front camera. The launch date of the device has not yet been confirmed. Although, the device is expected to go on sale in the US with the pricing of $465 and should also be launched in India for around Rs. 29,800.
