It’s high time you change your phone if you still have one that runs on Android 2.2 Froyo or an older version of Android. The same applies if you have an old Windows phone that hasn’t been upgraded to Windows 8.1, or an iPhone that still runs on iOS 6. Because if you don’t, you’ll have to say goodbye to WhatsApp, as the company intends to kill support for the devices mentioned above by the end of 2016. If you wish to continue using the free messaging service, do consider buying a new phone by 2017.

To provide the users with a seamless experience and a better way to communicate, WhatsApp’s decision does seem to be founded enough. WhatsApp offers a cross-platform free instant messaging service, which means, developing features and making them work seamlessly with each and every operating system is rather difficult, and if older and aged devices or smartphones are yet to be supported in an era, where most of the phones run latest versions of their respective OS, WhatsApp might actually handicap itself! Several new features that WhatsApp has or will implement require certain hardware and software requirements which simply aren’t met by older versions of OSes and smartphones, for example, Video Calling, Voice Calling, etc.
However, BlackBerry devices, some still being in use, are supported until June 2017. But, Android, Windows, and iOS users with ancient versions of the respective operating systems do not have the pardon. What do you think about this?
