Which iPhones are not getting iOS 27?
Apple has kept the same device compatibility requirements as iOS 26, so basically no additional iPhones got removed from the supported list this year.
However, the older models, like the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, remain ineligible for the update. These models lost support in an earlier iOS release, and they won’t get iOS 27 either.
Some Apple Intelligence features require newer hardware
Even if iOS 27 is going to roll out on a broad span of iPhones, not all the features will be available on every supported model, so some things might feel a bit distant depending on the device.
Apple’s more advanced Apple Intelligence experiences, especially the next-generation Siri AI, are tied to newer hardware, so it’s not something the older iPhones can really do. Right now, these functions are limited to the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and newer models that have the right setup for on-device AI processing.
Even if someone has an older supported iPhone, they’ll still get the core iOS 27 feel, along with security updates, better speed upgrades, UI refinements, and a bunch of the software’s latest features.
When will iOS 27 be available?
Following its announcement at WWDC 2026, Apple has made the iOS 27 developer beta available for testing. A public beta is expected to release in July, which will give more users an opportunity to try the software before its official release.
The final iOS 27 version is expected to come in later this year, more or less alongside Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup. Well, at least that’s the thing we are hearing from the rumors. So yeah, it seems like a matched set.
