The long rumoured WhatsApp feature that lets you recall your messages is now rolling out but only in beta for now. With this feature in place, WhatsApp will save you from all the embarrassment that you might have faced after sending a message to the wrong chat. The recall feature is now available for WhatsApp beta and should be out for everyone quite soon.
We have been receiving the scoop that WhatsApp is testing the unsend feature but it never reached beta app until today. To make use of it, you need to have the WhatsApp beta v2.17.399 installed on your phone. The feature will be made available from the service-side, so not all will get the feature even with the version mentioned above installed. It is being rolled out slowly and might take some time to reach all.
WhatsApp calls this feature ‘Delete for Everyone’ and is a nifty addition especially when you are in an awkward situation. What’s interesting is that even the recipient of the message can also delete the message for everyone, besides, of course, the sender. Long pressing the message will reveal the menu where you can select the trash option, which will reveal another menu, like in the included image.
Once you’ve clicked on ‘Delete for Everyone’ the message will be deleted for all the recipients, in case of a group chat. In place of the deleted message, all the users will see this line: “This message was deleted”. Now when you’ll see this mentioned in one of your chat, you’ll know some notorious message came in and is now gone.
But you need to know that you’ll be getting only 7 minutes to hit that delete for everyone button before the damage has already been done. If the recipient(s) has read the message, then recalling it won’t help. Maybe WhatsApp would polish the feature further while it is in beta and make the feature even more secure.
