Android Oreo Go Edition is the trimmed down version of Android Oreo, which will be running on many budget devices providing access to core Google services and apps, that are optimized for phones having 512MB or 1GB RAM. Google announced it last year and said that devices in 2018 will come with the Android Oreo Go Edition. According to the latest report, Google is set to launch the first Android Oreo Go Edition smartphone in India in partnership with Micromax.
As per the report, Micromax will be the first vendor to bring a Android Oreo Go Edition phone and other Indian manufacturers like Lava, Intex, Karbonn will also join the Android Go league later. The report says that the first Android Go Edition smartphone will be priced at $31 which is Rs. 1,970 approximately. The phone will be targeted to those who want the power and convenience of Android at a very low budget and ready to upgrade from a feature phone to the Android ecosystem.
The new Android Oreo Go Edition will run stock Android, with lighter apps and special optimizations. The phones will come with a lighter version of core Google apps like Google Go, Google Maps Go, Gmail Go, YouTube Go, Google Assistant Go, Files Go, etc.
Qualcomm and MediaTek have already announced that they will support the Android Go project and will optimize their chipsets for Android Oreo Go Edition. However, it is not sure which chipset maker will be the first to power the Android Go smartphone. As of now, it is not sure what the Micromax smartphone running Android Oreo Go Edition would pack inside. However, Micromax said that it will launch the phone later this month. So, we will keep an eye on this interesting phone which may soon hit the market and empower more Indians, especially in rural areas, and bring features and convenience to their digital life.
