With 2018 already started, we are expecting the top smartphone makers to announce their newest flagships. LG and Samsung are already speculated to announce their flagships quite soon. But the interesting thing here is that the rivalry between the two this time would be as fierce as last year. LG is now expected to launch the G7 with the Snapdragon 835 and Samsung could be the one to blame.

This isn’t new for us as the LG G6 launched in February last year came out running the Snapdragon 821 processor from 2016, despite the fact that the Snapdragon 835 had already been announced. Qualcomm is a fabless firm and had outsourced the fabrication of its Snapdragon 835 to Samsung. In return of which, Samsung wanted an exclusive access to the first few batches of the processor.

As a result, Samsung Galaxy S8-series launched later in March came with Snapdragon 835 while the LG G6 had to settle with Snapdragon 821. This time again, Samsung will be manufacturing the recently announced Snapdragon 845 and the history is probably all set to repeat itself.

LG’s UK website had a page dedicated to the different Qualcomm-based fast charging tech its phones deployed. LG G7 was found mentioned in the list but under the Quick Charge 4.0 and it was the only phone found there. For those who didn’t get what just went downhill, the Quick Charge versions depend on the processor used inside the phone.

For the record, the newest Snapdragon 845 supports Quick Charge 4.0+ and the one that supports Quick Charge 4.0 is, you guessed it, the Snapdragon 835. Based on this list, which has now been taken down, the LG G7 will be coming out with the Snapdragon 835, which isn’t bad at all. The Snapdragon 835 is a capable chip, and, moreover, the Snapdragon 845 is also manufactured with a 10nm process, like its predecessor.

However, it cannot be firmly said that the Snapdragon 835 will definitely be the processor inside the LG G7. The smartphone manufacturers sometimes do mix and match the processor and the Quick Charge version. But we are more inclined towards the fact that Samsung will hog the first batches of Snapdragon 845 processors. This is when Samsung launches its flagship smartphones with Snapdragon processors only in the US, while the rest of the world gets an Exynos variant.
