In December 2021, Amazon raised the pricing of the yearly plan from Rs 999 to Rs 1,499 which is a whopping 50% hike in the pricing. Seems like the Rs 999 yearly plan is back albeit dubbed as Amazon Prime Lite. The plan gives you access to unlimited shows and movies on Amazon Prime Video although comes with quite a few restrictions.

Amazon Prime Lite at Rs 999/year in beta

For the uninitiated, the plan hasn’t arrived officially but rather it is in beta testing. With that being said, the plan is available to a handful of users in the country. As per what we know so far about Amazon Prime Lite, you will be able to stream unlimited content on Prime Video as usual. However, you will be capped at SD quality and won’t be able to toggle your way through HD content. Moreover, you can only use an account with a Prime Lite subscription on two devices of which, one should be a smartphone.

Moving on, the report mentions there’s no Apple Prime Music in the mix. On the delivery part, you can’t elect for same-day and one-day delivery but you can opt for two-day delivery and standard delivery since the former is only available with the full-fledged Amazon Prime subscription. You get exclusive offers and deals as you would on the current yearly subscription. There’s also 5% cashback that you avail with Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card on the go.

You can avail of unlimited content, that’s good but there’s a price you need to pay for the Lite variant. Nope, I am not talking about the Rs 999 for the subscription but rather ad-wise. Unfortunately, Amazon Prime Lite has ads. Yep, you heard that right. You will have ads on the Lite variant even though you paid for the subscription. There’s no update on how intrusive the ads will be but the fact that you will have ads on a paid subscription seems like a disappointing statement in itself.
