Apple has announced a new recall program for its MacBook Pro devices. This is after we got reports that some MacBook Pro devices are catching fire. Apparently, the 2015 15-inch MacBook Pro devices have a battery issue. This leads to its batteries getting overheated and if used longer, it could catch fire. And same was the case when some MacBook Pro fire incidents were reported. Now, Apple says that users should not use the MacBook Pro 15-inch devices which were sold between 2015 and 2017.

For user’s convenience, Apple lets its users enter their MacBook Pro’s serial number which will tell you if your device is affected or not. If it is affected by the battery issues, you will be eligible for a free replacement of your battery. However, the company also says that a “limited number” of units have been affected which were sold between September 2015 and February 2017. If you are using an older MacBook Pro 15-inch device with older touchpad then you should check if your device is affected.

To check if your device is affected, go to Apple’s website from here and enter the Serial number of your MacBook Pro. Apple says on its page that the “service may take 1-2 weeks”. However, we believe that this is a general estimate and it should be faster than that depending on your location and parts’ availability.

Apple has also not revealed what is causing the batteries to overheat and even catch fire. But the company has not revealed any specific detail about the same. It could possibly because of the wear and tear of the batteries which causes them to overheat but it could be something different as well. Also, Apple has said that this program replaces batteries of MacBook Pro’s affected by this issue worldwide. However, this program does not extend the warranty of affected units.
