Android Q is incoming and we are just a few months away from its official launch in September this year. Apparently, one of the features called ‘Scoped Storage’ that Google introduced with Android Q beta 2 has been reportedly pushed to release with Android R next year in 2020.
The feature ‘Scoped Storage’ deals with how the app interacts with the device storage. The feature would allocate apps with their own sandbox storage that they can use to create, store, delete data or storage as per their requirements. On the other hand, these apps will not have access to other parts of the storage and thus, users will have abundant storage to keep their photos and videos and other files while apps will have a specific section reserved specifically for them to function.
Apparently, the feature was fully rolled out with Android Q beta 2 and not the first one which created certain issues with the system enforcing each app to stick to its own sandbox rather than utilizing any section of the device storage.
San Diego-based Google was determined to roll out the ‘Scoped Storage’ feature with the final version of Android Q, however, it seems like app developers might not be able to make the cut as they have to make changes in the apps to support the new feature. As of now, Google has finally decided to slow down the implementation and it will be only in Android R that we will see this feature in works full-fledged.
Developers will have to be compatible with the new API so that Google can roll out ‘Scoped Storage’ feature next year during the release on Android R. This feature will add towards strengthening the security wall against intruders and unwanted agents where Google started to emphasize more on security and privacy of the users starting with Android Pie and now with Android Q, it will be implementing various features to strengthen the wall even further.
