A few days ago, there was a rumor floating in the rumor mill which said that the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 Pro could have not one but two 40MP sensors mounted on its back. Although Huawei has kept mum on the specifications at the moment, a reputed leakster (@IceUniverse) posted an image showcasing size comparison of the dual 40MP sensors that you would find on Mate 30 Pro compared to other smartphones from Huawei and its biggest competitor Samsung.
First of all, Mate 30 Pro will have a dual 40MP sensor each with a size of 1/1.55” and 1/1.7” where the former is a regular 40MP sensor with quad RYYB filter and the latter will have a 40MP ultra-wide-angle sensor that will make up for the 2/3rd of the rear camera assembly you would find on Mate 30 Pro. The third sensor will be an 8MP telephoto sensor taken right off the Huawei P30 Pro.
Proceeding further, the image did compare the sizes of Mate 30 Pro’s dual 40MP sensors compared to the single 12MP 1/2.55” sensor mounted on upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note10 which has remained the same for generations of Note and S-series of smartphones from Samsung although the computational techniques and power has improved drastically.
Anyways, the image shows Huawei managed to spike up the sensor size from 12MP 1/2.9” on Huawei P9, Mate 9 Pro, P10, and Mate 10 Pro to a whopping 40MP 1/1.7” found on Huawei P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, P30 Pro and finally, it will become the regular 40MP sensor on the upcoming Mate 30 Pro. On the flip side, Samsung has managed its optic sensor at 12MP with a sensor size of 1/2.55” intact starting with Galaxy S7 Edge or early to Note10+ which is slated to launch tomorrow.
Huawei usually releases its Mate series of smartphones in October so we could hope that October 2019 will mark the onset of upcoming Mate 30 series that will comprise of a standard and a Pro variant while Lite variant usually comes ahead of other two models.
