LG filed for a patent with World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and received it this Friday teasing a new outlook at its upcoming smartphone. According to the vague sketches posted alongside the patent, there is a smartphone with a triple camera assembly at the front enclosed in a notch cluster that makes it stand different among other smartphones.

To put things into perspective, smartphone makers are doing a lot to launch a phone like never before. The LG V50 ThinQ has a triple camera assembly at the back while Samsung Galaxy S10+ got a quadruple camera assembly. Nokia 9 PureView took it even further with a hexa-camera assembly and more are incoming.

We already have smartphones with dual camera setup arranged in the front as selfies camera but here, the patent shows how LG is willing to put three cameras in the notch cluster where each lens will be different i.e. standard, ultra-wide and ToF sensors although LG hasn’t specified any specifics yet and this is just a speculation.

The device has a triple camera assembly at the back too arranged similar to LG V50 which means this device could be the upcoming successor. The sketches show that the device has a rear-mounted FPS at the back along with USB Type-C port with no headphone jack. It has a power button to its right with a memory card/SIM slot along with volume rockers and Google Assistant key on the left side.

The device looks like a combination of LG G8 and LG V50 where the OEM included a ToF sensor in the latter which hints that this phone could have a ToF 3D depth sensor as well. This is a patent and similar to any patent filed by any smartphone maker, there is a possibility that it might not roll out as LG is keeping the design in tow to win millions over royalty if other OEMs use this design. But also, it could be a reality and we could see this smartphone as well but we will have to wait for any further updates to get a clear picture of it.
