OnePlus has no plans to launch the 9T series as an incremental “T” version of the OnePlus 9 series. Instead, a new smartphone with the codename Martini has been spotted to arrive last this year. Dubbed as the OnePlus 9RT, it is the “T” version of the OnePlus 9R that arrived earlier this year based on the OnePlus 8T with a chipset swap.
According to the reports, the OnePlus 9 RT or 9RT will have a 120Hz AMOLED panel just as the OnePlus 9R. It uses an overclocked Snapdragon 870 SoC since the Snapdragon 888 (or 888+) is reserved for the main flagship series. There’s a 4,500 mAh battery along with 65W fast charging tech.
Apparently, one of the biggest changes that the upcoming 9RT will bring on-board is a beefier 50MP Sony IMX766 module with a 1.0micrometer pixel size and a larger sensor size. The same sensor is seen on the OnePlus 9 series as well.
Moving on, just like the OnePlus 9R, the OnePlus 9RT is likely to launch in selected markets. This includes China and India but there’s no variant for North America and Europe at least for this year. The smartphone is likely to be launched in October 2021 which gives us plenty of time to know what it will bring on-board thanks to the numerous leaks and of course, official posts from OnePlus itself.
OnePlus 9RT will be the first smartphone to arrive with Android 12-powered OxygenOS 12 out-of-the-box. As you might have learned by now, OnePlus’ OxygenOS has merged with ColorOS from Oppo. Thus, it will borrow some features from ColorOS as well. The upcoming software is likely to steer clear of Google’s Material You system. What this means is that the OxygenOS 12 will be more or less the same as OxygenOS 11 aesthetically although new features will be added for sure.
OnePlus won’t have a launch in the flagship series this year as aforementioned. It will launch the OnePlus 9RT as well as two smartphones in the affordable Nord series. It recently launched the OnePlus Nord 2 5G as a successor to the original Nord.
