Samsung, Xiaomi, and Huawei already have a bunch of foldable phones and other OEMs are joining them soon. Turns out Xu Qi Chase, the CMO (China) at Realme posted on Weibo stating that a foldable phone and smartphone with an under-screen camera is in the making and expected to roll out in 2022.

The post doesn’t explicitly mention that Realme is working on both technologies although it could be a precursor on what to expect next year. Realme’s parent company Oppo is already working on a foldable device and it won’t be much of a hassle for Realme to get hold of it or develop its foldable phone from scratch.

Just as the news broke out, a design sketch for the alleged “Realme GT 2 Fold” has made headlines. Although it looks like a fan-made sketch, reports state that Realme could be working on something like it for 2022.

According to the information available, the sketch shows an inward folding phone with a 6.5-inch AMOLED cover and an 8” AMOLED primary display with a punch-hole on both the displays on the top-left corner. Other details include a dual 50MP+50MP rear camera setup where the second is allegedly an ultrawide-angle snapper. As you can see in the sketches here, there’s a USB Type-C port at the bottom alongside a speaker grille; a volume rocker is on the left and a power button on the right. The phone is likely to arrive with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Apart from the foldable phone, Realme is reportedly working on a smartphone with an under-the-display front-facing camera as seen in the post made by Chase. He did mention that the tech will mature in the coming months and 2022 seems to be a great time for OEMs like Realme to show their muscles in terms of innovations. We already have a phone under the display fingerprint scanner from Samsung so it makes sense that Realme will try to do something similar with the upcoming devices.
