Xiaomi has unveiled its entry-level Redmi 9 smartphone in Europe earlier this month. The same device with higher storage and RAM was also announced in China last week. Although the Indian market has always encouraged this entry-level series, the company did not announce anything around the Indian launch. Keeping this story aside, we already know that Poco is working on its Pocophone F2 and Pocophone M2 Pro in various markets including India. As far as the Pocophone M2 Pro is considered, the device has been a part of the rumor mill for quite some time now, but there is no word around the Pocophone M2 yet. Now, connecting these two stories, a new report suggests that the next Pocophone could possibly be a Redmi 9.

This was first reported by XDA Developers who spotted a TUV Rheinland listing for a brand new Poco device. The devices here are carrying the model numbers M2004J19C, M2004J19G, M2004J19I, M2004J19AG (Redmi), and M2004J19PI (Poco). From the previous certification filings at Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi Alliance, we can understand that the model number M2004J19(XX) belongs to the Redmi 9 series of smartphones. Here the C, G, and O are corresponding to the Chinese, Global, and Indian variants. As most of us already know, all the Xiaomi-branded devices are built and developed on these three (Chinese, Global, and Indian) variants, in general.

The only conclusion one can draw here is that an upcoming Poco device will definitely be a rebranded Redmi 9 series device. As mentioned earlier, Poco is currently working on two devices according to the reports. The devices are Pocophone F2, which will a successor to the Pocophone F1, and the other device is Pocophone M2 Pro. The company did not launch Pocophone M1, making the whole Pocophone M2 Pro rumors and leaks confusing. Regardless of that, there is no chance for Pocophone M2 Pro being the rebranded Redmi 9, as the M2 Pro reportedly has model number M2003J6CI which obviously does not match with the upcoming Poco’s M2004J19(XX) model number.

According to XDA Developers, the rebranded Redmi 9 could be the Pocophone M2 (non-Pro model). Now, this makes a lot of sense considering the fact that the device with model number M2003J6CI is named as Pocophone M2 Pro, instead of M2. The naming itself confirmed the existence of the Pocophone M2. With that being said, the Redmi 9 was not announced in India, and it is very much possible that it could come with Poco branding. Moreover, the year 2020 has become “a Year of Rebranding Products” for Xiaomi already. For instance, the Redmi K30 was released as Poco X2 in India. The Redmi K30 Pro was announced as the Poco F2 Pro in the International market. There are also rumors around Xiaomi TWS earphones getting rebranded as Poco Pop Buds and seems like the story is set to continue forward.
