A few days ago WhatsApp made its Material Design app available on the Google Play Store, after offering it on their website for over a month. It seems that this was only the beginning, as the WhatsApp website now contains a newer version.

The newer version is: 2.12.87, which isn’t a huge jump from the 2.12.84 version, but it brings a few cosmetic changes to help and refine the Material Design look of the app. The update also brings a new standard wallpaper which fits much better with Google’s Material Design looks. If we look further in the app, they also changed the calling screen, throwing away the black which makes place for the new WhatsApp green and the end call button is also a lighter shade of red.

Some of the other design changes of the app include removing the older menu icons that don’t have the Material look, and also refining the search bar.

Now we’re done with looking at the app we can say that they’re cleaning up the look of the WhatsApp app and that they’re moving forward to the latest Material Design guidelines from Google. But, as you may think, is there anything besides the changes of the look of the app? While WhatsApp doesn’t give us some specific changes, we can imagine that there are a number of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Want to give the new WhatsApp version a try? You’ll want to head on over to WhatsApp’s website.
