WhatsApp is currently testing out a feature that will allow users to transfer data from Android to iOS devices as a native feature.
I am talking about the latest WhatsApp Beta (iOS) with version 22.2.74 whose code reveals that the instant messaging juggernaut is testing out importing chat history from Android to iOS devices. Unlike traditional methods where you need to back up the files in iCloud or Google Drive before importing them on iPhones, this feature will allow simple transfer via WiFi or cable and won’t need any third party in the process. However, users would need to use “Move to iOS” during the migration process for now.
WhatsApp is a cross-platform app which means users from various OSes can talk to each other without any hassle. However, the ability to take the chat history with you when it’s time to migrate from Android to iOS and vice versa was unavailable. The testing of this feature which is currently available to a handful of users only will allow many people to transfer their chat history from Android to iPhones in a jiffy.
Talking about the feature, it seems like users will get a prompt just once and may not get redo it if they skip it. At the moment, only Samsung devices have the ability to migrate chat history, however, WhatsApp is actively testing the same feature for iOS to Android migration as well.
Note that this is a beta feature and thus, may not be available for all the users even if you are using WhatsApp Beta v22.2.74 iOS. Once the feature is tested out, it might arrive across beta testers and then the masses for use. There’s no update on its release date as well so you will have to wait for some time to get a clear idea of when the feature is arriving on your iOS devices.
