The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has added a new budget offering to its portfolio in the form of Mi Max 2. Positioned right above the Redmi series, the device packs respectable specifications for the price it is being offered at. However, it isn’t for everyone, just because of its massive size.

Xiaomi has already made it clear with the name of the phone that it is going to sport a big screen size. It packs a 6.44-inch 1080p display that is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. Its predecessor, the Mi Max from last year also had a similar sized screen and 1080p resolution. The Mi Max 2 has thinner side bezels at just 0.7mm but the overall design didn’t change much. The phone is made out of aluminum with a unibody design.

If it’s screen is big, then its battery is even bigger. The Mi Max 2 comes with a mammoth sized 5300mAh battery in a phone that is just 7.6m thick. With this battery, you can get a talk time of 57 hours and video playback of 18 hours, according to the company’s claims. Xiaomi has also included Quick Charge 3.0 that can charge the battery up to 68% within an hour’s time.

The increased battery backup can also be credited to the super-efficient Snapdragon 625 processor that powers this device. The processor has proven its prowess in the devices like Moto Z Play launched last year. A 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage bring the device at par with some of the flagships. Xiaomi has included a hybrid dual-SIM card slot, which many don’t prefer.

A 12MP sensor on the Mi Max 2 has replaced the 16MP sensor on its predecessor and it now houses a Sony IMX386 sensor with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture, and comes with a dual-LED flash. While a 5MP wide-angle camera is there on the front. Stereo speakers are a great addition to this phone along with the infrared sensor and a fingerprint sensor placed on the back.

It is probably one of the very few instances where Xiaomi didn’t launch its device as an exclusive to a particular online store. The Mi Max 2 will be retail across all major online stores including Flipkart, Amazon, Tata Cliq, and Paytm Mall, as well as through all the offline retail stores starting July 27th 10 AM.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has been launched in India with Matte Black color option only and is priced at Rs. 16,999. Reliance Jio customers will be entitled to 100GB of additional data spread across 10 recharges of 10GB each. Xiaomi will also be making the device available on July 20th and 21st at 12 PM during the Mi third anniversary sale at Mi.com and Mi Home.
