The “California Streaming” launch event was an epic success with the launch of two new iPads, Apple Watch Series 7, and the iPhone 13 series comprising four models namely iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max. Here’s everything you need to know about both iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini as both are non-Pro variants.

The displays mounted on iPhone 13 and 13 mini comprises of a Super Retina XDR panel with a diagonal size of 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch respectively. The display has been rated to achieve 23 percent brightness and maxing at up to 800 nits with 1200 nits of peak HDR brightness. There’s Dolby Vision, HLG, and HDR10 on-board for a superb display viewing experience.

Unfortunately, both the non-Pro variants miss out on 120Hz and stick to the standard 60Hz panels which is something I would have loved to see an upgrade with.

It goes without saying, the entire series comprises a new chipset aka Apple A15 Bionic chipset consisting of an hexa-core SoC built on a 5nm node and a 4-core GPU on-board combinedly making it the fastest chipset ever in the series of iPhones.

The chipset brings on-board two high-performance cores and four additional power-efficiency cores where the CPU has been custom-made. Both iPhone 13 and 13 mini packs in a 16-core Neural Engine that supports on-device image and voice recognition and other tasks paired with machine learning. There’s a new ISp and a new display engine with new video decoders and encoders.

The phone sees an incremental update in terms of design as it gets flat sides, rounded corners, a same-sized notch on all iPhone 13 series models, beautifully designed antenna lines, and more.

Optics have been grossly upgraded as well with a 12MP primary with f/1.6 aperture, 26mm focal length, and 1.7micron pixels with sensor-shift stabilization and a 12MP ultrawide snapper with 5-element lens, 120-degree FoV, an f/2.4 aperture, and a 13mm focal length at the rear arranged in a squaricle camera bump placed on a diagonal axis to each other unlike iPhone 12 and 12 mini.

Moving on, the front camera housed in the notch has a 12MP TrueDepth sensor with a Centre Stage feature that has many applications including following the user in the frame and more.

I can’t think about stopping just yet as there’s a lot to discuss the two incoming iPhones in this post.

Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini pack in bigger batteries giving a battery backup of up to 2.5 hours and 1.5 hours extra on top of backup produced by the iPhone 12 and 12 mini. However, Apple hasn’t disclosed the battery size on any of the iPhone 13 series smartphones at the time of launch as usual. The device packs in 20W fast charging, 15W MagSafe wireless charging, and 7.5W Qi magnetic fast wireless charging support.

The phone weighs 174 and 141 grams respectively while it is 0.25mm thicker compared to the predecessors. All the devices support 5G which includes more bands and carriers than any of the predecessors.

Other features that are common across both the devices are Face ID, UWB support, NFC, Lightning USB 2.0 port, Bluetooth v5.0 with LE, and A2DP. There’s dual-and Wi-Fi 6 support as well as GPS and a stereo speaker setup.
