Announced last year and released in the US this year, Apple’s Self Service Repair program is now available for 13-inch MacBook Air as well as MacBook pro models including 13”, 14”, and 16”. Earlier available for iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, and iPhone SE 2022, the program now covers these M1-powered laptops allowing the users to take the matter into their own hands and repair their laptops without taking them to a nearby Apple Store but it isn’t for the faint hearts.
Apple extends Self Service Repair Program to M1-powered MacBooks
Apple has finally released its Self Service Repair Program to include M1-powered MacBook Air and Pro devices allowing users to repair them on their own. Everything related to how you can conduct the self-repair for each and every component on Air and Pro is available on Apple’s Self Service Repair portal. It includes but is not limited to tweaking the trackpad, swapping the battery, and display, fixing USB-C, TouchID, MagSafe, and other individual module boards and others.
All you have to do is to review the manual and read out everything on how you can fix a problem by swapping, replacing, or fixing any responsible component. In fact, Apple Self Service Repair Store already offers you access to all the necessary parts and tools so that whatever you repair, it is using genuine components and with genuine tools sourced from the Cupertino-based giant. In fact, the portal will recommend all the tools you would need to replace or fix a faulty component that you can buy although it will end up costing a lot in intricate matters like changing a display since the cost does add up.
On the other hand, Apple is offering rental kits for $49 that are made to withstand rigorous repair jobs which is an easy way to rent out tools instead of buying them individually.
Although the manuals, the tools, and the components are available, the only question is whether you should try to pry open your expensive MacBook and do the repair yourself. Of course, you can do it if you know how to or are confident that the manuals and the countless videos on YouTube can help, the story for those who are trying it for the first time might differ. Apparently, you might end up causing accidental damage to other components when attempting to repair so that’s something you need to consider before taking further actions.
