We have seen the announcement of Apple’s own chipset for its Mac devices which was named as Apple Silicon. Now, we know that Apple will not replace all its Mac devices at once with the new chip but will do it in a phased manner. It is also said that the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon for all of the Mac devices will take at least till the end of next year. On the other hand, we are aware that things could be delayed to 2022 as well if Apple does not see the performance it would have expected.
But right now, what we know is that a new Mac event will take place sometime next month and there will be an Apple Silicon-powered Mac device at that event. Now, a new report has emerged which reveals that a new iMac is also coming but next year. This iMac will be powered by Apple Silicon and it will have a desktop-class chipset named as the A14T. At the moment, we have A14 Bionic on the iPhone 12 series and the iPad Air 4 with the Macbook also getting A14 chips with a different name.
So it is possible that the upcoming Macbook with Apple Silicon might also have the A14T chip. The first Apple Silicon-based Macbook releasing later this year is said to be a revival of the 12-inch Macbook which means neither the Macbook Air nor the Macbook Pro is going to get the chip this year. For the Macbook, Apple is developing the version of A14 known as “A14X” and is codenamed “Tonga” while the chip for iMac is codenamed “Mt. Jade” and is known as “A14T”. There is also a dedicated “Apple GPU” for Macbook Pro and the iMac which is codenamed “Lifuka”.
All in all, Apple is going all out with their plans to bring the Apple Silicon chips inside the Macbook lineup with their CPU and GPU combination so that their dependence on outside companies goes down to almost zero. This also means that Apple can now control the prices of their products and can charge whatever they want with the full profits staying inside the company.
