Apple has finally concluded with the “Apple Far Out” launch event launching the almighty iPhone 14 series along with Apple Watch Series 8 and AirPods Pro 2. Talking about the iPhone 14 series comprises four models – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max launched with an all-new notch design, a new chipset, satellite communication feature, and a lot more. We have already done our story on iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, it’s time to dig deeper into what the two Pro variants bring onboard.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro And 14 Pro Max Pricing and Availability

The two shining stars of the Far Out event, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have arrived in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB configuration. Apparently, Apple hasn’t changed the US pricing of these two models compared to their predecessors. It means you will get the base iPhone 14 Pro at $999 while the iPhone 14 Pro Max gets the price tag of $1,099 and the later configurations will get incrementally more expensive than the base variant as usual.

For those in India, the iPhone 14 Pro gets a price tag of INR 1,29,900/- while the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 128GB storage is available at INR 1,39,000/-. Both the models are available for pre-orders now and will start shipping on September 16.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max Specifications & Features

Satellite Communications

As usual, there’s little difference between the two Pro models in the iPhone 14 series that I will point out as we go ahead. Talking about the features, Apple has finally integrated Satellite Communications on all four models that will allow users to contact emergency services without needing a cellular network. The feature connects with the nearest satellite in the view and contacts emergency services if you are stuck in a desert or jungle with no way to escape.

Satellite communications will make their debut in the US and Canada in November and will be available for free for the first two years. Its availability in other countries isn’t known yet.

Dynamic Island

Notches are awful especially when you have such a huge notch (say iPhone 13) blocking a major screen real estate. Well, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have included a pill-shaped notch at the center that doesn’t just block the screen but rather becomes a part of something called the Dynamic Island. It is Apple’s solution to enable users to interact with the notch to get access to controls like music, timer, or anything that is running in the background.

Apple has transformed the notch into an entertainment and accessibility center. It might look like an ordinary pill-shaped notch at first but when you open an app in the background, Dynamic Island shows you all the options in a pretty consolidated menu without requiring you to open the app in the first place.

Crash Detection

With the new fleet of iPhone 14 models, Apple has included a better Crash Detection feature onboard. Although no one should need to use it (as quoted by Apple), it is a feature that can save lives. It can sense up to 256g force allowing the system to detect if you are in a severe car crash and notify both the emergency services and the emergency contacts you have pre-determined.

The tech uses a 3-axis gyroscope and a high g-force accelerometer that can sample data 4x faster than predecessors. It collects the data which goes into a sensor fusion algorithm to detect if you were in a car crash and notify accordingly. Just as fall detection, it lets you cancel the prompt within a few seconds if it was a fake alert.

Display Tech

Apple iPhone 14 Pro gets a 6.1” LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED panel boosting a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 2,000 nits of HBM, HDR10+ compatibility and there’s more. The refresh rate deeps down all the way to 1Hz which makes the user experience splendid. There’s Always-On Display onboard along with a few other features that you will find onboard. The iPhone 14 Pro Max uses the same features and specifications although with a larger display at 6.7”.

Optics – The New Era

Apple has improved the optics manifold. The primary cam at the back has a 48MP quad-pixel sensor making it the first cam to do so on an Apple iPhone. The sensor shoots at 12MP with pixel binning, it allows full-fledged 48MP snaps as well. The sensor has sensor-shift OIS and 2x zoom as well. Moving on, we have a 12MP ultrawide snapper with 1.4micron pixels that promises better images with more details than ever. You do get a 3x telephoto sensor as well and it is backed with OIS for super steady shots.

The rear camera assembly is capable of shooting videos up to 4K at varying fps along with Cinematic Mode, 10-bit HDR, and Dolby Vision HDR mode. The front snapper onboard iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max is a 12MP SL 3D snapper with HDR and Cinematic Mode with 4K resolution support.

Almighty A16 Bionic Chipset Rose To Supremacy

The powertrain onboard is an A16 Bionic chipset made on a 4nm process. It uses a six-core CPU delivering 40% faster performance than the rivals while consuming 20% less power than A15. The 16-core Neural Engine is capable of 17 trillion operations per second and with a 5-core GPU, the device captures 50% higher memory bandwidth to name a few. Apple has resorted to using the A16 Bionic chip on its iPhone 14 Pro models while the non-Pro models get an A15 instead.

As usual, Apple hasn’t shared information on the battery capacity yet. The vanilla model is estimated to last for up to 20 hours while the Max goes to 26 hours as per tech juggernaut. The phone does have both wired and wireless charging capability with support for Qi and MagSafe. Connectivity features that you will get the dup are Bluetooth v5.3, dual-band GPS, NFC, dual-band WiFi 6, along with UWB, Face ID, and barometer among others. You also get IP68 dust/water resistant onboard just like the previous iterations.

Talking about the SIM capacities, the international variant has Dual SIM or Dual eSIM capability while the Chinese variant has Dual SIM only with no eSIM capability. Both the devices have 5G support including SA/NSA/mmWave/Sub6 GHz although it also depends on region you are buying the phone from where the configuration might differ based on model numbers.
