While everyone has been talking in the smartphone world about Apple’s iPhone 9 which is supposed to be the latest entry-level iPhone from Apple, it has been delayed due to the ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19. This means that we will see the iPhone 9 launch at a later date which is likely to be during the WWDC 2020 which has been announced as an online-only event. However, a new and surprising report has come out regarding Apple’s plans with its entry-level iPhone lineup. According to the report, Apple is planning an iPhone 9 series rather than just a single phone.

This is because iOS 14’s code confirms that there is a “iPhone 9 Plus” being developed as well. It has been reported that the iPhone 9 will have a 4.7-inch display along with an A13 chip in what is basically an iPhone 8 body. So it makes sense that Apple is also working on an iPhone 9 Plus which will be an iPhone with a 5.5-inch display which also basically be a refreshed version of the iPhone 8 Plus with the same design.

It will also mean that the iPhone 9 Plus will have a higher price compared to the iPhone 9 which is rumoured to start at $399. It is expected that the iPhone 9 Plus will start at $499 and for that price, you get a bigger display with the same design, internals along with the possibility of dual camera setup since the iPhone 9 will only have a single camera.

As for the other details, the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus will have only Touch ID with a dedicated solid home button while Face ID will not be available since it requires dedicated hardware. Also worth noting that the iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus monikers are still not confirmed and they might still be called the iPhone SE 2 and iPhone Se 2 Plus as well.

These iPhones will be available to make payments with Apple Pay, use the Express Transit feature and also scan NFC tags in the background. All these features make the iPhone 9 series perfect for people who don’t like to spend money on flagship phones but still want the same features. It will also open up new opportunities for Apple in markets such as India where the phones are sold at cut-throat prices while still having most of the flagship features.
