After being in the news for a long time, Apple finally unveiled their next-gen iPhone models as well as a brand new Apple Watch. All the rumors which were making round on the internet have seen its end. September 12 marks the day of one of the great events in the tech world and it’s all over the internet now. I am talking about the Apple Special Event that took place on September 12 at 10 a.m. PDT wherein three new iPhone models was launched along with the new Apple Watch Series 4. Here’s everything you need to know about the launch event.

The brand, at the event, launched high-end iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max with a budget offering goes by the name iPhone XR. On top of that, they revealed the next-gen Apple Watch Series 4.

Apple Watch Series 4

The Apple Watch Series 4 is one of the jewels in the launch event with a larger display, reduced bezels and a watch-like architecture. The Series 4 Apple Watch brings a redesigned watch face and speakers made to sound 50 percent louder than the previous Series 3 Apple watch. It gets the new WatchOS 5 which is the most advanced operating system launched on September 17. It has a fall detection sensor that dials in the contact when a fall is detected. Further, it has a heart rate sensor with notifications if the pulses are improper.

Next, we have an electrode attached to the back of the watch to provide first-of-its-kind Electrocardiogram (ECG) on a watch. Apple has received FDA certification for the Apple Watch Series 4. It is available in three aluminum cases with Silver, Gold, Rose Gold color variant. The smartwatch is available in two variants i.e. a GPS and a Cellular edition where the former comes with a price tag of $399 and the latter joins the wagon with a price tag of $499. The Series 4 Apple watch will be available for pre-orders on September 14 and Apple will start shipping it by September 21.

The new Apple iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max

Apple launched three iPhone models yesterday at the September 12 event namely iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR (Yes, it’s not iPhone XC or 9, it is iPhone XR).

The iPhone XS sports a 5.8-inch OLED display with 2.7 million pixels, 458ppi, 2436×1125 pixels resolution, and a Super Retina display. It has a sandwiched chassis with durable glass front and back that encase a surgical grade stainless steel frame which goes the same for the larger iPhone XS Max model. The larger Max-sized iPhone sports a 6.5-inch OLED Super Retina display with 2688×1242 pixels resolution and 3.3 million pixels with 458 pixels per inch which is the highest quality display ever made for an iPhone.

About the optics, both the OLED display iPhones hosts a rear dual-camera setup with a 12MP wide-angle with features such as OIS, focus pixels, f/1.8 aperture, a 6-element lens with 1.4micrometer pixel size for flawless wide-angle photos. Then, we have a TrueTone flash with flicker detection system. Finally, the vertically placed camera setup concludes with a 12MP telephone lens with 2x optical zoom, IOS, and an aperture of f/2.4 that can be adjusted after clicking photos.

On the front, we have an RGB 7MP front sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 with the faster sensor. Encased in an iPhone X-like notch, there is an IR camera with an advanced image sensor, Dot projector with a micro projection lens, structured light transmitter and a diffractive beam splitter.

Under the hood, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max sports an Apple A12 Bionic chip, the first of its kind made on a 7nm manufacturing process. It has 6-core CPU with 2x performance core that makes the iPhones 15 percent faster and 40 percent lower power consumption while the 4x efficiency cores bring down the power consumption to 50 percent. The battery life has been the main concern for iPhone users but not with the new iPhones because the iPhone XS provides a 30 minute more battery back compared to iPhone X while the iPhone XS Max takes it further by extending the battery life by one hour and thirty minutes.

Both iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max sport IP68 protection allowing the iPhones to be immersed in water up to 2 meters for 30 minutes without any damage. Both the models have faster wireless charging capabilities but Apple hasn’t provided an input on its capacity yet.

Apple iPhone XS will be available in three storage variants i.e. 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB and starts at a price tag of $999. On the other hand, the iPhone XS Max sports three storage variants as well i.e. 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB and starts with a price tag of $1099. Both the iPhone models will be available for pre-orders on September 14 and will be shipped from September 21.

The cheaper iPhone XR (2018)

Apple also launched the Apple iPhone XR, the cheapest iPhone which is available in six shades and three storage variants. The iPhone XR sports the same Apple A12 Bionic chipset with 2x performance and 4x efficiency cores coupled with 3GB RAM. It has a 6.1-inch LCD edge-to-edge display sporting 1.4 million pixels that makes a total of 326 pixels per inch and a resolution of 1792×828 thereby making it a True Retina display.

When it comes to the camera assembly, the front remains the same as iPhone XS while the rear setup gets a single 12MP wide-angle camera with 1.4micrometer pixel size, f/1.8 aperture, a 6-element lens similar to iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

It has an IP67 rating which keeps it protected against dust, water, tea, soda, juice, and what not combined with scratch resistance and a highly durable glass panels while the panel itself is 7000 series aerospace grade aluminum with a luminous finish. To cater to more users, iPhone XR has Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) that allows dual SIM capability. There is a FaceID but there’s no 3D Force but to replace it, there is an alternative feature caused Haptic Touch.

The iPhone XR will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB and it’s price tag starts at $749 which is higher than what speculations were a few days back.
