Samsung Display is one of the largest OLED suppliers for Apple and the same will be true when the iPhone 14 series will arrive. With that being said, a new report has detailed further about the display tech that Samsung will be using for iPhone 14 series according to which, the non-Pro models won’t get the latest material set which is reserved for Pro models only.

Samsung Display to use lower-grade materials for non-Pro iPhone 14 models

According to a report by The Elec, Samsung Display will supply a majority of OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone 14 series comprising four models. According to the same, the South Korean giant will utilize lower-grade materials for the non-Pro iPhone 14 models while the top shot materials will be reserved for the Pro models.

To give you a better understanding of what’s happening, it is integral to understand what sorts of materials Samsung Display uses for display techs. The display maker will deploy an LTPS backplane OLED panel made with M11 material set on the 6.1” (iPhone 14) and 6.7” (iPhone 14 Max) models. On the other hand, the 6.1” (iPhone 14 Pro) and 6.7” (iPhone 14 Pro Max) models will get a new aged LTPO backplane OLED panel with the ProMotion feature and will be based on Samsung’s M12 material set which is the latest.

For context, Samsung Display uses the same material sets on its devices as well. The S22 got M10, S22+ and S22 Ultra got M11, and the upcoming Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 will get M12 material sets.

With that being said, Samsung is estimated to supply a whopping 80 million panels to Apple for the upcoming iPhone 14 models. It’s not just Samsung Display but LG Display will also chip in with panels for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max using an RS-L material set. These will be better than the last-gen RS-K set that LG used for iPhone 13 models.

With the majority of orders sanctioned to Samsung Display and then, LG Display, it remains to be seen just how many orders BOE received since Apple confirmed it as one of the suppliers.
