Moving WhatsApp data from Android to iOS and vice versa was never too easy as it is easy. Last year, Facebook-owned WhatsApp released a feature to transfer chat history from iOS to Android with Samsung while the feature made it to all the Android 12 devices in October. Cut to now, WhatsApp has rolled out the feature to transfer chat history from Android to iOS aka the other way around. The beta testing for this particular feature has started today.
WhatsApp’ Transfer Chat History from Android to iOS
According to the reports, the transfer chat history feature from Android to iOS is available on devices running Android 5 and above. They must be using WhatsApp (Android) 2.22.7.74 or later. On the other hand, the iOS users must have iOS 15.5 and should be using WhatsApp v2.22.10.70 client or later to be eligible for the beta feature.
Note that although the transfer chat history feature is cool, it works on two devices using the same phone number i.e. you are simply upgrading to iOS from Android (or vice versa). Also, the beta feature is available during the initial setup of the iPhone so you will have to take care of it as well.
You’d need to use Apple’s Move to iOS app in order to transfer chat history from Android to iOS. It happens locally whereby you’d need to tether both the devices on the same Wi-Fi network. You need to connect both old and new devices to WiFi and a charger to power it during the entire procedure.
We know so far that the beta testing feature can transfer chat history only. It cannot transfer payment messages and call history on WhatsApp. Also, data stored on the old phone (Android, in this case) will not be wiped out automatically. Users can still wipe the data manually when needed so that is something you need to know as well.
