Huawei Mate X is the first generation of company’s own foldable smartphone lineup which was launched back in February 2019. The device is also made available for purchase the same year. Huawei unveiled its Mate Xs in February last year. Now, going by these release patterns we can understand that the company might unveil its next generation of Mate X device February this year. For those unaware, the device is rumored to launch next month and recently the Mate X2 along with a mysterious Huawei phone with CDL-AN50 have appeared on China’s TENAA certification site. The Huawei Mate X comes with TET-AN00 and TET-AN10 model numbers. While the listing did not reveal any specifications of the Mate X2, a reliable Chinese tipster shared the entire specifications of the device.

According to the tipster, the engineering unit of the Huawei Mate X2 has 161.8 x 145.8 x 8.2mm dimensions and weighs in about 295 gramsA lot of reports in the past have suggest that the company might make its move away from their initial design by ditching the outward folding mechanism that was made available on Huawei Mate X and last year’s Huawei Mate Xs. The leaks claims that the Huawei Mate X2 comes with an 8.01-inch inward folding display, just the Galaxy Fold devices, and the display comes with a resolution of 2480 x 220 pixels. On the front of the device, it features another screen which measures 6.45-inches. This display offers a resolution of 2270 x 1160 pixels.

As for the optics, the device comes with a 50-megapixel primary camera. We are not sure of whether this is the similar camera found on Huawei Mate 40 Pro or not. But considering that this foldable device is a part of Mate lineup, we can expect the same 50 MP Ultravision camera on the Mate X2 too. This 50 MP primary sensor on the Mate X2 is accompanied by a 16 MP Ultrawide camera and 12 MP telephoto camera. There is also a fourth sensor of 8 MP here, which could be the periscope lens. The leak also claims that the Mate X2 sports 10x hybrid optical zoom. On the front, there is a 16 MP sensor.

Under the hood, the device will be powered by the HinSilicon Kirin 9000 SoC coupled with 8 GB of RAM. This is same SoC found on the Mate 40 Pro and was first introduced with Huawei P40. This SoC intergrates eight CPU cores in three clusters with a single high performance ARM Cortex A77 clocked up to 3.13 GHz coupled with three more performance cores with 2.54 GHz and four efficiency cored based on ARM Cortex-A55 architecture with up to 2.05 GHz. ARM Mali-G78 MP24 handles the graphic duties here. All this is backed by a 4,400 mAh battery which is expected to come with a support for 66W fast charging.

Huawei Mate X2 sounds like a great deal, at least on paper. All the Huawei devices launched last year do have the potential and excellent specs but an Android device without Google Play Services is not encouraged at the moment. Hopefully, the company will come up with an App Store of their own that supports all the applications and services.
