The social networking giant Twitter witnessed a major breach with prominent people getting hacked on Wednesday late at night. The list of hacked accounts includes Elon Musk, Apple, Bill Gates, Kim Kardashian, Joe Biden, and the list goes on. All these accounts were used to solicit digital currency.

The scam posted the tweets on behalf of the accounts and pronounced a Bitcoin Wallet address. All the tweets promised of sending back double the amount of BTC if a user sends a certain amount to the designated wallet first! The scam appeared to happen in two rounds. When the tweets were deleted from Gates’ and Musk’s accounts, the scammers posted the tweet for the second time.
To make it look genuine the scammers tweeted “You know I living giving back to my community. I’m doubling all BTC payments sent to my address. You send $1,000 and I will send $2,000 back! Tell your family & friends. Only going on for 30 minutes” from Elon Musk’s account. Although scams like this are very common on the internet, it is quite concerning how the scammers gained access to these high profiles.

Justin Sun, Tron found and CEO of BitTorrent has announced a sum of $1 million. BitTorrent’s official Twitter account tweeted that Justin is putting out a bounty for the hackers in the amount of $1 million. The tweet further added that Justin will personally pay those who successfully track down, and provide evidence for bringing to justice, the hackers behind this hack affecting the community.
We also limited functionality for a much larger group of accounts, like all verified accounts (even those with no evidence of being compromised), while we continue to fully investigate this.

Recently, the CEO of Twitter responded saying that it was a tough day for Twitter. All the Twitter employees are diagnosing and will share everything they can after getting a complete understanding of what exactly happened. Later, Twitter also stopped the ability to send tweets to some of the accounts as they were trying to address the incident.
