Xiaomi has added another smartphone launch in its bucket with the new Xiaomi Redmi Go that was launched today at an event in New Delhi, India. Redmi Go is the first smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer to sports Android Go-enabled Android Pie 9.0 and competes for head-on with the likes of Samsung Galaxy J2 Core and Nokia 1 Plus.

Touted for a March 22 release on Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home, the USP of the device is its firmware i.e. an Android Go version of Android Pie 9.0 which is essentially a watered down version of the full-fledged Android Pie. This enables the budget smartphone to feature the latest software combined with decent hardware components making it a must-have for those who are looking for a smartphone in less than Rs 5,000/- but don’t want to compromise much.

Talking about the device, Redmi Go offers a brilliant 5-inch HD display with a screen resolution of 720p. It has a powerful Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor paired along with decent 1GB RAM and internal storage of 8GB that can be further expanded to up to 128GB.

The device sports a single 8MP sensor at the back arranged to resemble much like Redmi 5A since the build appears to be similar although the device is made up to plastic and metal congregation. Further, the device has an average 5Mp selfie camera not housed in the notch that gives you a nostalgic feeling.

According to Xiaomi, one of the most impressive features on Redmi Go is its battery i.e. 3,000 mAh which is capable of providing a standby duration of 10 days, 12 hours of call time, 5 hours of video playback and 78 hours of music playback on the loop. The thing is, even though the device falls little short of 3,300 mAh battery on OnePlus 6, it runs on a light-weight Android Go variant of Pie that runs lightweight apps and thus, provides an improved battery life over other smartphones.

Other features include a bottom speaker for better music experience, dual microphones to reduce noise and more. Moreover, the device has a Dual SIM support and has been tagged with a price tag of just Rs 4,499/- and it will be available for sales starting March 22. To put things into perspective, you can buy 7 Redmi Go’s in place of a single OnePlus 6 or maybe around 20 Redmi Go’s for a price of a single unit of iPhone X although the comparison will be silly.
