After Google Pixel devices, it was none other than Essential phones that were updated to the latest version of the Android OS on the same day. However, to those who thought it wouldn’t go, Essential is winding down its operations and is now officially dead. The update was released by Essential on its website which stated that those Essential PH-1 users who have received the February security update on Feb 3 will be the last update the phone will ever get.

Perhaps the phone will still be in operations although don’t expect any security or Android updates and in fact, there’s no customer support since the company is winding down full-on. This means no bugs or security threats will be cleared and in fact, Essential will host its full vendor image on GitHub where developers can check out and hack it out as they want.

Essential released its latest smartphone in 2017 i.e. PH-1 and has since not launched any other device. Although it was reportedly working on Project GEM, a weird elongated shaped smartphone, the project has been thrashed as well. It is not just the phones but the cross-platform email service Newton Mail is also going down on April 30, 2020. Bid goodbye to the company as it will pack up its operations in the coming weeks as said.
