Facebook is in the news a lot these days, mainly due to the Cambridge Analytica data scandal. But that is all due to Facebook’s irresponsibility towards the user data and the preposterous interaction of Mark Zuckerberg when he appeared in front of Congress last month. Now, the news is related to one of the biggest announcements made by Facebook which might be helpful for people and the company itself.

At the recent Facebook’s annual developer conference on Tuesday, Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will soon be launching its dating service. Mr. Zuckerberg claimed that more than 200 million people on Facebook identify themselves as single, and the new service will enable these people to connect with each other.

Nowadays online dating is in the trend but does it aim to build a long-term relationship between people? This is what Facebook is going to work upon, maybe revolutionizing the entire online dating game. The Facebook dating service is poised to become one the most legit hookup sites , and maybe even more. Unlike other dating apps, this app will be completely focused towards building a real long-term relationship between 2 people.

Mr. Zuckerberg said, “This is for building real long-term relationships, not just hookups”

This news was alarming for the companies in the online dating business as the tech giant is going to capture the market with the help of its existing 2.2 billion users.

The reaction to Facebook’s dating app was instantaneous. The shares of Match Group, the company that runs Tinder and other popular dating apps, dropped more than 22 percent, leading to the largest one-day drop in its history after Mr. Zuckerberg’s announcement. Shares of other companies in the same business such as InterActiveCorp, or IAC, have also been dropped by almost 18 percent.

How does this Facebook dating service work?

First of all, your dating profile will be different from your main Facebook profile keeping both your dating as well as personal life separate. This new service will suggest you people apart from your Facebook friend list which is a nice addition. You will be able to set meet-ups right by adding it to your dating profile. There will be a text-only messaging service which is built right into your dating space so you don’t need any dedicated app for this purpose.

But the biggest question is will you use the Facebook dating service? If not, then why? let us know in the comment section below. We would love to hear your thoughts on this.
