Google has unveiled its most anticipated Pixel 4a last week, and it looks like Google is gearing up to launch its flagship Pixel 5 this fall. Pixel 5 is expected to be the company’s flagship smartphone offering of the year. But according to the leaks and speculations, Google Pixel 5 may not carry any flagship specifications. As a matter of fact, it could only be a small upgrade over the Pixel 4a, in terms of performance.

Pixel 5 has been spotted on a benchmarking site with a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC. The listing on the AI-Benchmark website shows the device which goes by ‘Google Pixel 5’ name and the device is found running Android 11 and comes with 8 GB of storage. The listing for the device is right below the Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4 XL which were launched with Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC.

But interestingly, the AI-Benchmark scores for all these three devices are pretty much the same. The Pixel 5 score 39.4 whereas the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL scored 39.6 and 39.5, respectively. It is worth noting that Pixel 5 might be using unofficial hardware or drivers. All this appears to back up the previous reports. Also, the core for pre-released APK for the Camera application showed the evidence of Pixel 5 being powered by Snapdragon 765G, instead of Snapdragon 865 SoC.

Going by all this, the Pixel 5 seems like an upgrade to the Pixel 4a rather than the Pixel 4. Google Pixel 4a which was launched with Snapdragon 730G scores roughly 1600 in multi-core tests. When you put that against OnePlus Nord which is powered by Snapdragon 765G, the scores are almost similar at 1877. These scores aren’t strikingly higher than the last year’s Pixel 4, but when you consider the current generation flagship devices like OnePlus 8 with Snapdragon 865 SoC, the score difference blows off the Google Pixel 5 as all the Snapdragon 865 devices got above 3000 in the similar tests. As of now, Google did not confirm the specifications for the Pixel 5, but they would obviously market the device as an affordable yet premium device.
