If you are using Google Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL, the app called Recorder which is a Pixel 4-exclusive app comes handy. Instead of relying on audio files that usual recorders create once the recording is done, the Recorder app uses real-time AI to transcribe the audio into text which is basically a great feature in case if you would love a text copy rather than audio file whenever you record something.
However, the feature is currently exclusive to Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL only and wouldn’t work on any other Pixel devices. But not for long as a Google employee who goes by the name ‘PixelCommunity’ posted on Reddit that indeed the app will be rolled out across older Pixel devices where users will get a software update that’ll carry thereby affirming it.
It all started when a Reddit user ‘Valendr0s’ posted on Reddit about how the Recorder app is not backward compatible and how he or neither his wife both using Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 2, respectively, could use the app. He added that the app would be great when he is on a visit to his wife’s doctor where he can take notes without any writing something.
The Recorder app was teased at a previous launch event. The best thing about this AI-enabled transcribing app that converts audio into text is that it doesn’t even require an internet connection. To put things into perspective, most of the apps available on Google Play Store that transcribe audio to text require an internet connection. There are benefits of having the Recorder app as a built-in app rather than a third-party app.
Anyways, there is no intimation on when it will roll out via software update and what devices will it cover although the most obvious will by Pixel 3 series. Since there is no official information available regarding supported devices on when it will get the update, we will have to wait for some time to get more insight on the same.
