If you consume too much content on YouTube, you already know what I am talking about. YouTube has updated its player to adapt to the screen sizes and aspect ratio of all the videos wherein it won’t show black bars or stripes across the videos trying to fit any and every size of videos in a 16:9 standard aspect ratio that Youtube supported earlier.

According to the latest update that was first rolled out in iOS and Android devices and recently, the update was made available for YouTube web media player on the desktop. To understand how it works, you need to know that YouTube displays videos at an aspect ratio of 16:9 and 640 x 480p in terms of screen resolution. Now, if the video is shot on a phone in portrait mode, it will definitely be constructed in terms of its width since the user shot the video on portrait mode.

YouTube would actually put a black bar or stripe across odd-sized videos in order to fit it in the screen size of 640 x 480p. This means that most of the screen with be black and it will also reduce the quality of the video and it will also cut off some portions of videos meaning which, you might not be able to view a complete video.

It’s annoying to have a black bar accompanying the videos with different aspect ratio besides the standard 16:9 which YouTube used to support. But now, YouTube has extended its support to other aspect ratios too which means, the player will automatically adapt to the screen size and the resolution of the video making it a fully immersive experience without the black bars, the player will simply fill the area based on the aspect ratio of the videos with white color. Enjoy the latest UI update made by YouTube across all platforms and stay tuned to know more.
