Honor has entered the foldable smartphone market with Honor Magic V, the first-ever foldable smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 under the hood. The device shares designs with the Galaxy Z Flip3and offers much more on the table. Released earlier on Monday, here’s everything you need to know about the Honor Magic V.

The Honor Magic V is available in Burnt Orange, Black, and Titanium Silver colorways. The model commences at CNY 9,999 (or $1,570) while the higher variant with 512GB storage goes up for sale at CNY 10,999 (or $1,725).

According to the official timeline, the Magic V goes on its first sale on January 18, however, there’s no update on its global release at the time of writing this.

The foldable primary display is the center of attraction that closes inwards with seemingly no gap between the two halves. It measures 14.3mm when folded and 6.7mm when unfolded. Its dimensions make the device a bit wider and thinner than the popular rival Z Fold. According to Honor, the device has a waterdrop hinge technology under the hood for the folding mechanism.

For the uninitiated, it is the first foldable smartphone from Honor and the first one to get Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on-board. We haven’t seen many smartphones with Gen 1 chipsets let alone foldable ones.

Honor Magic V Specifications

Honor Magic V sports a giant 7.9-inch foldable display at its core with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 2272×1984 pixels resolution, and a 10.3:9 aspect ratio cumulatively. Each half of the primary display has a 21:9 aspect ratio. It comes with 800 nits peak brightness, 10-bit color depth capable of producing 1.07B colors, and supports HDR10+. It is also the first foldable smartphone with IMAX Enhanced certification.

If you think the primary display is lit, check out the secondary display. It has a 6.45-inch 21:9 OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 431 PPI, 10-bit color depth, and a 2560×1080 pixel resolution.

Moving on, the primary display folds inwards giving you an advanced piece of technology. The display boasts a trove of cameras. Two 42MP selfies are cameras in a punch-hole cut-out each located on the primary and secondary display. Then there are three 50MP cameras with a 23mm wide-angle lens, 13mm ultrawide, and a color spectrum snapper. This constitutes the triple rear camera setup.

Moving on, we have a 4,750 mAh battery under the hood paired with 66W fast charging tech. The device also runs on Android 12-based Magic UI 6.0 out-of-the-box. There’s 12GB RAM on all versions while there are two storage variants – 256GB and 512GB. Honor Magic V comes with 5G capability which has become a staple of flagship phones nowadays.

Honor has packed in a noteworthy independent security chip that stores all the sensitive information on-device and off the rails from any prying eyes.

Other specifications include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a USB Type-C port for charging, data transfer, and a headphone jack. There’s Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, and a trove of other features too.
