If you are a Huawei fan, you might just have hit a gold mine. Turns out the Chinese juggernaut has rolled out an interesting clamshell-like foldable phone dubbed Huawei Pocket 2. Well, it’s the first phone to feature four cameras on the cover, the first to feature two-way satellite messaging, and the first flip to feature a water-drop hinge with no gap. Let’s take a deep dive into what the Huawei Pocket 2 packs in.

Huawei Pocket 2 Pricing and Availability

Huawei’s Pocket 2 will be available on its first flash sale today i.e. February 22 on Vmail.com in China. You can look out for four color options with the offering – Purple, Rococo White, Tahitian Gray, and Black. Its 256GB iteration is priced at CNY 7,499 (or $1,040) while the higher 512GB variant retails at CNY 8,499 (or $1,180). Finally, there’s an artsy Dream Blue variant that retails for CNY 10,999 (or $1,500).

Huawei Pocket 2 Christened With Sophisticated Design

The Huawei Pocket 2 is not another flip phone out there. It has got an oomph factor which is something Huawei has an upper hand in manufacturing.

Huawei Pocket 2 uses a clamshell design with an innovative hinge design made to minimize creases and yes, fold flat. It has zero gaps between the two halves with a minimalistic crease even after two weeks of usage pre-launch. The phone uses IPX8 water resistance giving you the ability to immerse the phone up to 2m in depth for 30 minutes with no apparent damage. Of course, that’s something you shouldn’t practice unless you accidentally drop your phone in the water.

The artsy model clad in Dream Blue is a bit expensive but offers a charismatic design that goes well with its name – artsy. Huawei has also maxed up the phone in terms of storage and RAM, unlike the other colorways.

Huawei Pocket 2 Specs & Features

Huawei Pocket 2 made its debut earlier on Thursday with a clamshell-like design. It uses a 6.94” LPTO OLED primary display inside which is foldable (of course). There’s a small 1.15” circular cover screen directly under the circular camera bump with a dual-circle symmetrical design. It has a FHD+ resolution with 340×340 pixels resolution.

On the power front, we have a Kirin 9000S taking care of all the processes. It shares the room with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. There’s a Pocket 2 Art edition that gets up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage onboard. On the software front, Huawei Pocket 2 uses HarmonyOS 4 since Android isn’t available in China following the US & Huawei debacle a few years back.

The device is powered by a 4,520mAh battery pack paired alongside 66W of wired and 40W of wireless charging setup. Huawei has conveniently integrated a vapor chamber (VC) on the top half that improves thermal conductivity thanks to its makeup of multiple graphite layers.

When it comes to the optics, Pocket 2 sports a quad-camera setup. It uses a 50MP shooter with OIS and f/1.6 aperture; a 12MP ultrawide snapper with f/2.2 aperture; an 8MP 3x telephoto lens with OIS and f/2.4 aperture; and finally, a 2MP UV sensor completing the rear setup. As per Huawei, the fourth cam can detect UV intensity and spot deep sunspots among others. Moving on, Pocket 2 gets a magnificent two-way satellite messaging system powered by Beidou.
