Leaks around iQOO 16 display tech are coming in strong. Turns out the phone will be using cutting-edge new material developed by Samsung Displays. We are talking about a 2K panel running at a whopping 165Hz for the upcoming flagship phone. Here’s more you need to know about the development.
iQOO 16 display tech reveals Samsung’s M16 2K 165Hz panel
Recently, Samsung Display and iQOO held a tectonic screen technology event where a new display tech was unveiled. To be used by iQOO 16, the phone will use a 2K 165Hz OLED panel using Samsung’s M16 luminescence material and 2K LEAD 2.0 technology, the first smartphone to do so.
What this means is that iQOO 16 will use the latest M16 material to pack its OLED panel, making it the world’s first smartphone to deploy the tech. Note that even though Google Pixel 11 Pro packs in the same material, it is based on 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, which means iQOO 16 takes a lead here.
Samsung’s M16 is the latest incremental material paired with a custom-made high-refresh-rate IC designed to buffer at a whopping 165Hz with its 508ppi density, onboard the iQOO 16.
As per the specs shared during the September 14th event, the iQOO 16 display will be capable of up to 500Hz multi-finger touch sampling, up to 5000Hz instantaneous touch sampling, 100% first-frame brightness—one of the highest in the industry—and minimal ghosting, to name a few.
The display is capable of reaching a local peak brightness of over 10,000 nits and a general peak brightness of 2,800 nits. Of course, we will have to wait till it arrives to find out if that’s flying or not.
iQOO 16 will deploy Q-Flex control technology that reduces the latency between touch and action on the screen. The display tech also brings color accuracy of ±0.001, although the actual value may be determined once the device launches officially.
As for the iQOO 16 launch, we are hearing about an end-of-September launch timeline, although we are awaiting the actual launch date.
