South Korean tech giant LG has already announced that it will launch its mid-range device LG Velvet on May 7 in an online event. Now, ahead of the official launch event, LG has revealed the entire specifications and features of the Velvet which comes in some vibrant colors and a new rear design with the raindrop camera setup. LG Velvet will be the companies first mid-range smartphone to feature 5G support out of the box.

The elephant of the house here is the design of the device itself. Talking about the design, LG mentions the ‘waterdrop camera’ and ‘Symmetrical Ellipse’. The waterdrop camera refers to the camera setup on the back of the Velvet. There is a triple camera setup on the back of the device, where the three cameras are arranged like water droplets falling. Symmetrical Ellipse refers to the oval shape of the phone.

A previous leak also suggested to us the wireless charging capabilities of the LG Velvet without any specifics. However, the certification website now has revealed that the device will support 10W wireless charging. It is a Power Class 0 receiver which is usually the standard for up to 30W wireless charging. LG confirmed that the Velvet will be powered by a 4,300 mAh battery. This is a decent choice considering the huge display and 5G technology embedded inside. Also, LG exults about their all-new low power software algorithm which will minimize the unnecessary power consumption.

The LG Velvet comes with a glass and metal chassis that offers a 3D arc design to the users. The features of the device include Artificial Intelligence sound that can automatically analyze the content and chooses optimal audio quality. As for the camera features, the device includes quad binning technology that combines four pixels into one which results in better low light image qualities. The Voice Out Focus is one of the interesting features here which makes it possible to remove unwanted sounds while capturing a video.

LG Velvet Specifications and Features

The LG Velvet comes with a 6.8-inch AMOLED Cinema FullVision display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The device is almost bezeless, courtesy of water-drop camera notch. The aspect ratio of this display is  20.5:9. The top and the bottom bezels are of equal size. The pixel density of this display is 395PPI.

Underneath the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC. Adreno 620 handles the graphic duties here. The chipset here features an integrated Snapdragon X52 5G modem and on the CPU side, we get the octa-core Kryo 475 with a maximum clock speed of 2.3 GHz. The previous leaks also suggested that the device comes with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storages. The storage can be expandable up to 1 TB with microSD support.

As for the optics, the LG Velvet as mentioned earlier comes with the waterdrop triple rear camera setup on the back. The primary sensor is a 48 MP unit with f/1.8 aperture with Optical Image Stabilization. The secondary unit is an 8 MP ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 119-degree field of view. The tertiary unit is a 5 MP depth-sensing unit. On the front, there is a 16 MP unit with an f/2.0 aperture.

The LG Velvet runs Android 10 out of the box with LG UI skin on top. LG UI comes packed in with a plethora of features. The in-display fingerprint sensor, Dual-SIM, MicroSD slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type C port takes an account here. All this is powered by a 4,300 mAh battery with an all-new low power software algorithm which will minimize the unnecessary power consumption.

LG is yet to confirm the pricing and availability of the LG Velvet. The device will be available in multiple colors such as Aurora White, Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Illusion Sunset. From April 29 to May 7, LG will be hiring 300 Velvetists to try the smartphone for a month. The first sale of the smartphone will begin in South Korea on May 15
