The Mobile World Congress (MWC)2023 started with a bang with tech brands showcasing various prototypes and concepts on the go. Lenovo-owned Motorola showcased the Motorola Rizr concept, a rollable display tech at the MWC 2023 that will pit against the likes of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Oppo N Flip series.

Motorola Rizr Rollable Display Concept Phone

Motorola showcased its rollable display tech showcasing the Rizr with a 5-inch POLED display at a 15:9 aspect ratio. It can extend to the size of 6.5” with an aspect ratio of 22:9. All thanks to Motorola’s rollable display technology that wraps around the bottom of the phone and extends when needed.

When the display is rolled i.e. not in use, it acts as a secondary display showcasing date, time, weather, and notifications on its always-on-display. When it is completely rolled out using a motorized mechanism at the bottom, the display stretches to 6.5” on the Razr-inspired phone thanks to the said sliding form factor.

The tech is all decked up and it adjusts screen size based on the content displayed. Interface and apps onboard have been optimized to alter sizes as and when needed. For instance, the display rolls out completely when viewing YouTube in horizontal mode.

Motorola provided the folks who attended MWC 2023 with an all-working and functional prototype although neither Specifications nor the timeline for when it will officially arrive commercially has been provided.

The tech juggernaut even showed the display tech on a larger form factor that can potentially disrupt the tablet and laptop markets once it arrives.

Motorola Rizr appears to have a dual camera setup at the back. The front cam, speaker grille, and allied sensors at the front are nicely hidden beneath the display where it rolls further to give access to it. When it comes to weight, Motorola Rizr is slightly heavier than iPhone 14 Pro Max at 210 grams and thicker as well. Although with the new tech in the works, we shall give it a pass until further iterations aren’t rolled out in the coming years.
