Apple’s OLED iPad mini could get big upgrades
According to the reports, Apple could launch the next OLED iPad mini in late October or early November. Of course, reinventing the wheel in terms of design remains out of the question. However, it seems Apple could still bring a lot of beef to the table, including a better display, a faster processor, and changes to the camera placement, if not the entire hardware behind it.
Mark Gurman, via Bloomberg, suggests Apple will bring an OLED display on-board that promises brighter whites and darker blacks. Although we are left out of any more information on the specs, the OLED panel on board the upcoming iPad mini seems in line and incoming. It remains to be seen if the OLED panel in question is a top-of-the-line panel we found on iPad Pro models or if Apple sticks to a watered-down version of the same.
On the processor front, we have the Apple A20 Pro SoC probably making it to the OLED iPad mini. If true, this puts the tablet in line in performance with the recently launched iPhone 18 Pro series. The chipset itself is built on a 2nm node with promising benchmarks on its title. It remains to be seen if Apple will skip a few series of its bionic chipsets to bring the A20 Pro to the OLED iPad mini. For context, the iPad mini 7 arrived in October 2024 with an Apple A17 Pro SoC.
OLED iPad mini camera could shift to landscape
A few iPads already got a front camera setup on the long or landscape edge. It seems the OLED iPad mini could see the same treatment wherein the camera would shift from its short portrait edge to the landscape edge.
This makes it easier to hold video calls and meetings, keeping you (the subject) in the center. This will put the upcoming mini in line with the rest of the lineup.
Keeping all this in mind, Apple could hold a launch event (or simply a launch) in late October or early November. We don’t have any dates as of writing this, but you can check out this space for all future updates.
