The notch is here, and it’s here to stay. Almost half of the Android OEMs in the market have taken the notch into consideration, including Huawei, Asus, Xiaomi and now it looks like OnePlus is also interested in this growing trend. Lately, there have been ample amount of leaks on the existence of the OnePlus 6 which was also later confirmed by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei in a tweet which was followed by a small teaser video.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took it to the OnePlus Forums to let the people know about the notch and the future plans of the company for its upcoming flagships. Pete Lau replied to a comment about the notch saying, “A black-out feature was seriously considered in the early stages of the development of the OnePlus 6.” He added, “At the time we decided against adding this feature. We wanted to focus all of our time and resources on delivering an exceptional full-screen experience. I still believe the best way to experience the OnePlus 6 is using the full potential of the display…Recently, many users have raised interest in having the black-out function. We respect your feedback, and would like to give everyone the ability to choose.”
Basically, the black-out feature will help the users to enable or disable the notch; this feature was also used by Huawei in their latest devices, the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. Users who do not prefer having a notch will have an option to do so. Pete Lau wrote on the forum, “This function will enable you to black out the background of the notification and the status bar. It will be added in a future software update which will be released after the initial launch of the OnePlus 6.”
